Hyperthermia came together in Spenard, AK in 1987. They were the first Metal band to come from Alaska. They played their first show, a “battle of the bands”, at the National Guard Armory in February of 1988, where they stole the show. In May of 1989, they were give the great opportunity to open up for Metallica at the Sullivan Arena. Shortly after they recorded their first EP entitled “Warfare”. They played shows from Fairbanks to Kodiak. They were the first local band to be played on a local radio station in Alaska. In 1991, they went to Seattle and recorded their second EP entitled “True Freedom” just in time to submit one of the songs into a local original music contest. They won first place and which gave them a spot at the Alaska State Fair that year.

In 1994 they moved down to Portland, OR to find more opportunity. That is when they became paired down from the original five piece line up. Hyperthermia is; Steven Twigg on Bass and lead vocals, Shane Reed on Drums and Jeff King on guitars and back up vocals. They have been playing shows in the Northwest for almost 20 years on their own and on the bill with numerous national acts. They are very excited to finally be coming back home to do two shows september 27th and 28th at the Carousel Lounge in good old Spenard, AK.
